Fundación Agustín Tomalá - Guayaquil, Ecuador
<< BACK
The members of the Agustín Tomalá Foundation have been working for over
10 years to bring help and hope to people suffering with HIV/AIDS in the
city of Guayaquil. The growing incidence of AIDS in Ecuador, particularly
in Guayaquil and the coast, is of great concern. This project seeks to help
AIDS sufferers by providing medicine, counselling and support for them and
their families.
Foundation workers visit the Infectious Diseases Hospital weekly, giving
out medicines to the poorest patients. They also visit patients in their
homes to counsel and encourage, and, when possible, provide material help
such as food and clothing. The majority of those infected are in the
poorest socio-economic group.
The Foundation also runs a support group where women can meet to support
and encourage one another and learn more about nutrition, hygiene, and
childcar. Another area where the team works is in the field of AIDS
education and prevention. They hold seminars and workshops in local
schools and community centers
Current Needs:
- $25 per month provides a food bag for a family. The foundation tries to help approx. 30 families with food bags each month (total $750 per month)
- $100 per month provides medicine for one person suffering with AIDS.
- $150 per week provides materials and transportation for volunteers to give AIDS prevention workshops in eleven community-based clinics throughout the city of Guayaquil.
