House of Hope - Puerto Cortes, Honduras

The House of Hope (La Casa de Esperanza) in Puerto Cortes, Honduras is a safe home for orphaned and abandoned girls who, at the age of 18, find themselves without a place to live when they are no longer able to live in the orphanages they were sent to as young wards of the court.

These girls are forced to leave the place they have come to know as "home" without finances, employment, housing, or the knowledge of basic independent living skills. Consequently, many of these girls end up living on the beach, begging in the street, getting into trouble or becoming ill.

The House of Hope is a home for those who desire a higher education, a chance at future employment, and who want to learn about life away from the dangers of the street. Assisting these young women will break the cycle of poverty and abuse that has been their legacy as they become strong, effective, educated leaders in their communities.

House of Hope contributions support the girls' room and board, school tuition, uniforms, books and school supplies, clothes, shoes, medical care and all other basic needs. There is also a need for a college scholarship program.

Current Needs:

  • $20 will provide school supplies for one student for a year
  • $20 will provide one pair of shoes
  • $40 will provide a school uniform
  • $35 a month provides educational or vocational opportunities for a student
  • $100 a month provides housing and food for a student
  • $250 a month ($3000 a year) sponsors a gifted student with a college education
