Novo Acolher Orphanage, Brazil

Atibaia is a bedroom community for the 3rd largest metropolis in the world, S‹o Paulo (19 million people). While still retaining some characteristics of an interior, rural town, Òbig-cityÓ problems such as poverty, crime, corruption, inadequate health facilities and more already plague the lives of many of its 110,000 residents.
Novo Acolher (New Welcome) Orphanage. This orphanage, under the supervision of Ronaldo and Cleusa Romero, opened its doors in February, 2006. The orphanage currently cares for 15 children from 0-9 years of age, coming from poverty-stricken and/or abusive homes. This is the first in a four-stage project designed to take in needy and abused children and provide them a family until the day when they can be responsible, self-supporting adults. Plans are under way for a teen residenceÑthe only one of its kind in a community of 110,000 people.
Current Needs:
- Support is needed for all operating expenses. The home will have space for 30 children from infancy until marriage or financial independence. Work teams can enhance the project through construction, maintenance, grounds and painting.
