Plane Conversation Leads to a Beautiful Surprise

We’re constantly reminded that God provides in unexpected and beautiful ways. ER’s Rachel Icenogle was on a flight when she met Caryn Jensen-O’Neill, whose husband Dr. William O’Neill is a member of the International Andreas Gruentzig Society (IAGS), a group of physicians and scientists committed to the global advancement of cardiovascular health. Caryn was traveling to do site scouting for an IAGS conference.

As the conversation turned to ER, Caryn shared her passion for helping people. After a post-flight discussion, Caryn spearheaded the collection of supplies for our Quito Dream Center and Women Recyclers Program. We were astounded when 15 suitcases packed with supplies arrived in Ecuador! IAGS members delivered the supplies on their way to the conference.

We organized the donated items according to the needs of the Quito Recycling community:

Clothing for women and girls
Clothing for men and boys
Socks for men and women
Underwear for men and women
Stuffed animals and large toys
School supplies, small toys and cleaning supplies
Reflective vests for kids and adults
Last month we distributed clothing while celebrating International Women’s Day. Each woman and girl chose two or three pieces of clothing. We did the same thing with the men and boys.

The school supplies will be distributed in August so the children are prepared for the new school year. Toothbrushes, cleaning supplies and other supplies will be distributed over several months.

We also received socks and shirts from a sports team. We’ll share these items at a parent and child gathering later this month.

The large stuffed animals, bigger toys, and Hot Wheels cars will be distributed to kids as Christmas gifts.

Thank you Caryn and IAGS members for your generosity and compassion for the families we serve. You are a true blessing!
