Kilroy once had a bright future as a college student, but at age 20, his life took a downward turn when he fell into drugs. That same year, he became a father to two children. His battle with addiction led to the breakup of his relationship. Heartbroken, Kilroy sank deep into addiction for many years. He struggled with employment, managing only temporary jobs.
At 52, Kilroy’s life changed again. He met a new partner and became a father once more, this time to a baby named Kaycee (privacy name). Kilroy promised to leave his troubled past behind and become a responsible father. He was determined to start fresh and build a better life for Kaycee. Then, life threw another challenge his way. His partner left and Kilroy had to raise six-year-old Kaycee on his own. The demands of single fatherhood were overwhelming and Kilroy struggled with grief while trying to balance work, parenting, and household duties.
Desperate for support, Kilroy and Kaycee were invited to join the iBIKE (I Believe In Kid’s Education) mobile school program. With a small step of faith, Kilroy gave iBIKE a chance, not realizing how much the ripple effect would change their lives.
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water and create many ripples.” — Mother Teresa
The program offers Bible lessons, academic classes and meals, all made possible by generous donors. Kilroy and Kaycee were warmly welcomed into the iBIKE community. Kaycee found a safe place to learn about God’s love, improve her reading and writing skills, and grow in confidence. Kilroy found a source of hope and strength, helping him navigate single parenthood and renew his purpose in life.
The community became their second family. Kilroy noticed significant changes in himself and Kaycee. His faith grew strong. He became a patient and loving father, while Kaycee blossomed into a bright, joyful, confident child with a deep love for her faith. Kaycee dreams of becoming a nurse. Kilroy’s and Kaycee’s journey shows the incredible ripple effect of faith, community, love and new beginnings.
