The people who volunteer to help at-risk families are awesome. We’re thankful for such volunteers, like a team from the University of South Carolina (USC) that traveled to Fish Hoek, South Africa.
The nursing students brought joy and excitement to the Dream Center. While education is our top priority for Dream Center kids, nutrition and good health are major contributors to their development.
USC has sent nursing students to serve with ER in vulnerable communities for many years, but had to cancel trips during the pandemic. So this trip to provide health screenings and lead workshops was very timely.
The nursing team spent two days with the Dream Center kids. We are thankful for their hard work and for logging the health checks on each student. They also presented topics like nutrition and hand hygiene with the younger kids, puberty with the older girls, and the effects of sports drinks and gaming with the older boys.
